PEDAL AND PADDLE BLOG
Why you should Pedal and Paddle across Kent this Summer
For those who love the outdoors, there is no better way to experience so many different parts of Kent in one day. From the architecture, the coast, the river and wildlife to the pub lunches, train journeys and new friends, these new tours have it all. These guided tours will be brought to you by Canoe Wild, Cols Kent Bike Tours and Eurocycle Adventures to see Kent in a whole new light.
The first tour is Canterbury to Margate, on this city to coast adventure you will experience the stunning Kentish countryside and coast from land and river. Your guide will share stories about the history, culture, and wildlife that you see along the way so, again, there is no better way to experience Kent as a whole.
Cycling and paddling, the two most, in my opinion, calming and relaxing activities that you can do outdoors. Take in your surroundings and the fresh British air whilst pedalling and paddling across Kent this summer. You will also have the chance to chat to new

people along the way and therefore meet likeminded people who, like you, are loving the outdoors and experiencing it first-hand. The river Stour that you will be paddling has many hidden stories - the lower part of the river is tidal; its original mouth was on the Wantsum Channel, an important sea route in medieval times. With our Canterbury to Margate tour, there will be a 2.5-hour paddle from Fordwich to Grove Ferry where your guide will take you through the stories and facts about what you see along the way. You will encounter beaver activity, moorhens, kingfishers and much more along your adventure before reaching Grove Ferry where your bikes and belongings will be waiting for you. The Grove Ferry Inn is next on the list for a bite to eat before embarking on the rest of your adventure, pedalling to Margate along the beautiful coastline to complete your tour.
If Canterbury to Margate is not for you then don’t worry as we have a Whitstable to Canterbury to Whitstable tour that might be more your style. This ride simply has it all! On this trail you can expect forest paths and paved tracks through the Kentish countryside, designated paths hugging the coastline and a tranquil paddle down the Stour River. Experiencing the river, once again, first hand you will glide along for an hour’s paddle at the scenic Fordwich, a quaint little town which was important to shipping in Roman times after the silting up of the southern entrance
to the English Channel. Next, you will be stopping off at the George and Dragon Pub for a quick drink before heading off again for the last stretch to Herne Bay and back along the coast to Whitstable.
Both pedalling and paddling are great exercise for those who love getting outside and active, these tours experience a variety of terrain giving you a unique feel. Why should you pedal and paddle across Kent this summer you ask? This unique experience takes you through a totally different way of seeing Kent, inside and out, as well as exercising outdoors and taking in the fresh air. Not only will you encounter history, wildlife, and culture, you will have a great time meeting new people, paddling the river that runs throughout our county and find out some great facts that you never knew.
